From noise lies a great possibility for transformation, for becoming…
For the occasion of collaboration with GmbH for the Spring Summer 2022 collection, Studio LABOUR created a new track that engages directly with the theme, White Noise.
The harpsichord motifs are partly inspired by the 16th century composer William Byrd’s ‚John Come Kiss Me Now‘ from which a longer passage is also directly quoted. This original piece, written for the plucked-string keyboard instrument, has a curious history of reappropriations, known to accompany a wide range of social functions including the more licentious, and even had a period as devotional music, thus shifting the implications of the title and lyrics that sometimes accompanied this once familiar tune and English air, even if momentarily.
Using digital sound processing, the composers gesture towards the potential for self-determined change at any moment; here the sounds become noisier, the chords more emo, and the rhythms more (19)90s R&B.
